Without oxidation-reduction reactions, your students wouldn’t have their prized cell phones (could they manage without texting?) But neither would we be able to use the oxygen we breathe into our lungs. So, all in all, we’re big fans of redox reactions.

In this activity you’ll use a methylene blue solution to highlight oxidation and reduction. The methylene blue indicator is colorless when in the presence of a reducing agent (glucose) but turns blue in the presence of an oxidizer. This is a simple activity with a prep time of just 10 minutes.
