Pucks to Socks Activity
Are you looking for a fun way to teach your students about kinetic friction? This activity will 'rock their socks off!'
Grade Level: High School
Discipline: Physics (Honors, CP and IB level students)
Standards: National Science Standards Alignment
Science: Physical Science
Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions
5.HS.PS2.1. Analyze data to support the claim that Newton’s second law of motion describes the mathematical relationship among the net FORCE on a macroscopic object, its mass, and its acceleration.
Are you looking for a fun way to teach your students about kinetic friction? This activity will 'rock their socks off!'
Before this activity, ensure your students have already learned kinematics and part of the dynamics units of physics. Given the prompt, they should know to create a scenario where kinetic friction should be the only force acting on the object of interest. Students should also know that for there to be kinetic friction, the object of interest must be moving against the surface in question.
Grab your socks, clear the classroom and prepare to have fun by downloading the activity plan above.
