What is Climate Change?
Grade Level: Middle School
Discipline: Earth Science
Standards:
M.D.1. Structure of the earth system. Global patterns of atmospheric movement influence local weather. Oceans have a major effect on climate, because water in the oceans holds a large amount of heat.
H.D.1. Energy in the earth system. Global climate is determined by energy transfer from the sun at and near the earth’s surface. This energy transfer is influenced by dynamic processes such as cloud cover and the earth’s rotation, and static conditions such as the position of mountain ranges and oceans.
By the time your students reach middle school, they’ve probably heard the term climate change and understand that our planet is warming. But they likely don’t know why it’s happening, what people think about it, and the effect it can have on our environment and our lives. We’ll help you teach them in a way that empowers and inspires them, rather than instilling fear.
This comprehensive middle school unit reveals differing viewpoints, explores established science, and incorporates hands-on research activities over the course of 13 days.
