Essential activities for essential STEM lessons: Clearing the water

Middle School

Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink...until students complete this hands-on STEM activity!

Explore where tap water comes from and how it's made clean and safe for public use with this hands-on, NGSS-aligned activity.

Using a variety of simple materials, we'll show you how to lead students through an inquiry-based challenge to remove contaminants from water by designing a water filtration system to model one step of the water purification process.

They'll test their designs, collect data, and investigate which materials work best for clearing the water in preparation for the next step in the decontamination process.
