Extend the Lesson: Map Usability Challenge
Invite a colleague or school administrator to join the fun by selecting a student-created map and using it to locate the identified
classroom safety equipment. Turn it into a simple scavenger hunt, but keep the activity observational; participants should not
touch, move, or activate any equipment. Afterward, use their experiences to discuss which map features made navigation easiest
and what improvements could make the maps even more effective.
Suggested Assessment Criteria:
• All required, available safety items are included
• Locations are accurate
• Map includes enough landmarks for orientation
• Labels and legend are clear and consistent
• Reflection responses demonstrate safe decision-making
