Materials Needed: • CPR manikin (any level: torso, full-body, or even practice pads) • Stopwatch or metronome (can use app set to 100–120 bpm) • "Emergency Instructions" card: – "Perform 30 compressions at the correct rate and depth" • Code hidden nearby or revealed after completion: – Example: code card under the manikin, in a drawer, or handed over by teacher after success Student Instructions: 1. Read the Emergency Instructions provided. 2. Perform 30 chest compressions on the manikin at the correct rate (100–120 compressions per minute). 3. A teammate will time or count to keep the pace accurate. 4. After the set is complete, retrieve the code hidden in or near the manikin—or ask the Game Master if your performance was successful. 5. Use the code to unlock your next puzzle. How the Puzzle Works: • Students must use correct rate and technique (or close enough for beginners). • You can use: – CPR manikins with feedback lights or apps, or – Manual observation and a teacher/Game Master for validation • Once students demonstrate the correct rhythm and complete the required compressions, they "unlock" the code. Code Delivery Options How They "Escape": • Performing the compressions correctly leads to the next code—either physically retrieved or rewarded by the instructor. • Optional: add realism by playing a "flatline" or beeping monitor sound on a loop. Teacher Notes: • You can be flexible on precision—for introductory students, just encourage good form and team coordination. • Consider assigning roles: Compressor, Timer, Coach • Keep this fast-paced but low-stakes—this is about technique, not certification. Method Example Under the manikin Tape the code (e.g., 9341) to the underside In a sealed envelope Only hand it over if performance meets CPR guidelines Hidden nearby Code hidden in a mock AED case or drawer
