+ ward ' s science Page 3 Physics Projectile Project: Part I (student handout) Objective: Your team must find the ratio of baking soda to vinegar that launches the film canister to the greatest height. Teams consist of 1 or 2 people. Notes: • All testing will be done in the gym or outside. • The projectiles time of flight will be determined using video analysis — a group member will use their phone to record a video — a typical iphone records 30 frames/second…you need to check yours in settings…but all files should be uploaded to google docs for review. • The projectiles maximum height will be calculated using h = 4.9t2 • The best method for mixing and measuring the baking soda and vinegar will be determined by the group. Requirements: • Your group will record data tables showing the time of flight and calculated height. • A sample calculation for height is required. • A claim stating which combination of baking soda and vinegar allowed the film canister to reach the greatest height. • An explanation, using the data as evidence, which led your group to make your claim. • Groups will submit a google document with the required data and conclusions. Example Google Doc Submission: Projectile Project—Part I Names: Claim: Evidence: Explanation: Sample Calculation: Trial # Amount of Baking Soda (NaHCO3) Amount of Vinegar (C2H3O2) Ratio of NaHCO3: C2H3O2 Time of flight (upward) Calculated height (m) 1 2 3… Name: Class: Date:
