Wrecking Ball Lab Activity

Materials (for each lab):
• (2) Ring stands with ring support, and clamp (if supply is limited one will work, add time and modify step 10)
•
1) Wrecking ball with a mass of 226 grams, with string attached
• (1) Wrecking ball with a mass of 67 grams, with string attached
• Hot glue gun with glue
• Cardboard base approximately 60 cm x 44 cm
•
(2) Wooden Blocks approximately 18 cm x 1.28 cm x 8 cm
• (1) Ruler
• (2) Transparent ruler (if supply is limited one will work, add time and modify step 10)
•
.47 L bottle of water
• (1) Calculator
• Safety glasses
Wrecking Ball Build Step-by-Step Procedure:
1. Lab safety instruction.
2. Use picture to the right as a reference, while you are building the device.
3. Turn on hot glue gun.
- One person stays with hot glue gun while it is heating.
4. One person collects materials.
5. Place cardboard base on a flat surface.
- Take both ring stands and place them on the cardboard base.
- Both ring stands must be oriented in the same
direction and length sidesmust be parallel.
6.
Hot glue the ring stands to the cardboard base
- Use the hot glue sparingly.
