Never eat or drink from laboratory glassware. 46. Clean all glassware thoroughly before returning it to storage, as directed by the teacher. G. Electrical Safety 47. Do not use electrical equipment with damaged cords, exposed wires, loose parts, or other defects. Report broken or faulty equipment immediately. 48. Use caution to avoid electrical shock to yourself and others. 49. Turn off and disconnect power sources before assembling, adjusting, or repairing equipment, unless the teacher directs otherwise as part of a supervised procedure. 50. Avoid using metal objects or wearing metal jewelry when working with electrical equipment. 51. Disconnect equipment by pulling on the plug, not the cord. 52. Be cautious when handling equipment that has been in use because it may be warm or hot. 53. Never operate electrical equipment with wet hands or while standing on a wet surface. H. Reporting Accidents, Injuries, and Emergencies 54. Report all accidents and injuries to the teacher immediately, including spills, falls, cuts, burns, allergic reactions, exposures, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe conditions. 55. In the event of a chemical exposure, immediately use the eyewash station or safety shower to flush the affected area with water for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Notify the teacher right away. 56. Immediately seek help from the teacher or authorized supervisor in any emergency. I. Home-Lab Safety Guidelines These guidelines apply only when the teacher assigns an approved home-lab activity. Home-lab activities are separate from school-lab activities. At school, the teacher or authorized adult supervises the activity and school emergency procedures apply. At home, the parent/guardian is responsible for providing appropriate adult supervision, reviewing the activity in advance, maintaining a safe workspace, and following household emergency procedures, including calling emergency services when needed. 57. Perform only assigned and approved home-lab activities. Do not conduct unauthorized activities or substitutions. 58. Store all lab materials, chemicals, and equipment safely out of reach of children and pets. 59. Choose a safe, stable workspace with a flat surface, access to water, and protection from spills. 60. Ensure adequate ventilation, such as opening a window or using a fan when appropriate, and keep a clear path to exit the area if needed. Student Safety Acknowledgment (continued)
