I'm just here for the popcorn: A heat transfer lesson plan.

Thermal energy heat transfer popcorn

Middle School/High School

Hi, folks! We’re just popping in to let you know there’s no butter way to keep students focused on learning than with the star of all movie snacks. (Sorry if that was a bit corny – let’s move on.)

Here’s a lesson plan students will love. It’s a quick activity for middle- and high-schoolers that uses popcorn to uncover three different ways heat can be transferred – conduction, convection, and radiation. They’ll learn about thermal energy, you’ll get a great-smelling classroom, and everyone gets to eat the results.

As always, if you have any questions about lesson plans or anything else, just ask the Ward’s Science Plus Us team at sciencehelp@vwr.com. Our in-house scientists and technicians are ready to answer even the toughest inquiries.
