CTE Healthcare Escape Room Activity (continued)
Learning Focus:
• Understanding diagnostic fluid testing
• Interpreting test results for blood type or urine abnormalities
• Applying clinical reasoning
Scenario:
"The Lab Mix-Up! "
• Several patient samples were mislabeled during a chaotic shift. Your team must test each sample and match it to the correct
patient.
• When placed in the correct order, the sample IDs reveal a final escape code.
Materials Needed:
• Artificial urine and blood kits
• Patient sample cards with partial data
• Test result chart (for students to record findings)
• Lockbox or code envelope (for clue reveal)
Student Instructions:
• Test each sample using the provided kits.
• Match results to patient cards.
• Determine the correct order of patients based on test results.
• Use the sample IDs in that order to form the final code.
How the Puzzle Works:
• Only one sequence of test results correctly matches all patients.
• The correct order reveals a code (e.g., BACD or B-B+A+O)
Urine Testing Activity
Students analyze the urine samples to identify samples containing vitamin C, phosphates, and glucose. Once matched correctly,
the order reveals a clue.
Blood Typing Activity
Alternatively, students can determine blood types using the kits:
Patient Name Urine Sample
John B Good A
Suzanne Q B
Seymore B C
Pepper Potts D
Sample Results
B Presence of vitamin C
A Presence of glucose
C Normal
D Presence of phosphates
Patient Name Blood Sample
John B Good B–
Suzanne Q B+
Seymore B A+
Pepper Potts O
