Making Waves (continued)
Learning Objectives:
• To create transverse waves showing crests and troughs.
• To create longitudinal waves showing compressions and rarefactions.
Procedure:
1. Put students in groups of 2–3.
2. Two students use the super spring to create crests and trough (either up and down or side to side).
3. Third student files the wave in slow motion.
4. Each group/pair tries to demonstrate transverse and longitudinal waves.
5. To build upon the next objective, have each group repeat the steps, but this time trying to demonstrate constructive and
destructive interference. Filming each one in slow motion.
Assessment:
Students show slow motion videos in class/teacher goes from group to group checking their progress and choosing videos to
display to the class.
