Predicting Porosity & Permeability of Earth Materials
(student handout continued)
Careers & Connections:
Vocabulary:
Dam: A structure or barrier made by people or animals to control the flow of water.
Permeability: How easy water can get through a material. The permeability of something is
how absorbent the material is.
Porosity: The quality of being porous, or full of tiny holes. Liquids go right through things
that have porosity.
Prediction: What we think will happen based on what we observe and already know.
