Planetary Adventure Travel Project
Submitted by: Avery B.
Recommended Grade Level(s):
Appropriate for: Middle and High School
Teaching Topics & Concepts:
This activity is about Earth and Its place in the universe. Students are examining the other planets in the solar system and
discovering what makes them NOT habitable planets. This then allows the students to come up with creative solutions to make
the planet they are researching habitable and then present those creative solutions in a persuasive manner through their
marketing materials. This project could have a place in both HS and MS based on the standards alignment.
Standards:
Middle School Alignment
MS-ESS1.
MS-ESS1-3. Analyze and interpret data to determine scale properties of objects in the solar system
NGSS Science and Engineering Practices
Analyze and interpret data to determine similarities and differences in findings
NGSS Disciplinary Core Idea
The solar system consists of the sun and a collection of objects, including planets, their moons, and asteroids that are held in orbit
around the sun by its gravitational pull on them. (MS-ESS1-2), (MS-ESS1-3)
High School Alignment
NGSS Science and Engineering Practices
Communicate scientific ideas (e.g. about phenomena and/or the process of development and the design and performance of a
proposed process or system) in multiple formats (including orally, graphically, textually, and mathematically). (HS-ESS1-3)
NGSS Crosscutting Concepts
