Sinking, Floating and Suspending Investigation (student handout continued) Data Gathering 3: See which objects float, sink, or suspend. Data Gathering 4: For any block that sinks, attach a string and use the string to attach a spring scale. Take the reading on the scale when you suspend the block in the water. Make a table to record your data below. Data Gathering 5: For any block that floats use the push spring scale to push the block underwater. Measure how much force is takes to do push the block under. Make a data table to record your data below. Data Gathering 6: Place a dish of water on the electronic balance. Tare the balance so it reads 0. For any object that sinks, suspend the object in the water using a string. See if the balance has a reading other than 0. If it does, make a data table below and record the data.
