Set Up: + ward ' s science Double (Helix) the Fun with this DNA Extraction Activity (continued) 1. Chill the rubbing alcohol in the freezer for several hours or overnight (don't worry, it won't freeze). 2. Measure 2 tsp of sports drink. Then, swish in your mouth for 1 minute. 3. Spit back in cup and add 2 drops of dish soap. Stir gently. 5. End result — DNA! 4. Measure 2 tsp chilled Isopropyl Alcohol and gently pour down side of cup. Cover the cup and swirl it gently to combine — do not shake! Dip in the stir stick and wind the strands of DNA around the stick.
